We work with you to make your designs a reality

Lifting your designs from the two dimensional architect plans and turning them into a working product can be difficult. Our service is truly bespoke and you can work with us to produce rooflights to the size, shape and configuration that you want. Colours, glazing specification, interior timber choice and actuation can all be decided by you.

UK design, manufacture & assembly

We do it all here. Your project will start and finish in the UK; from your initial discussion about your requirements, through to your approval drawings, the production and the hand finishing. We are readily available via phone, email and live chat to ensure that we can help at any time throughout the process.

No project is too small

We pride ourselves on our approach to all projects and are as happy to produce one off small items as we are the larger projects. If you require something unique to suit your home, then we can help regardless of size or quantity.

A clear and simple process

We always aim to provide a written quotation on the same day as you request it. This will list out the requirements relative to each rooflight so you can understand exactly what you are getting for the price quoted. The quotation is provided without charge and you are under no obligation to accept.

Should you wish to proceed with a bespoke order we require a 50% deposit of the total amount (inc VAT). You will then receive a confirmation via post.

Once the deposit amount has been paid, our design team will produce an approval drawing for each rooflight on the order. This process can take up to 10 working days. Once your bespoke rooflight drawing/s are prepared we will send them to you via email for you to review. When you are happy that the drawing/s exactly match your requirements we need your written approval (usually via email) to move into the production stage. You are able to make as many changes and alterations to the drawings as necessary and we will not produce anything until you are happy for us to do so. The approval drawing is the final stage before the manufacturing process. Once you approve your drawing any subsequent changes will incur costs. If you do not understand your drawing please make sure that you speak to your builder or architect. The approval drawing will be the last document issued prior to manufacturing and will supersede your original enquiry or details shown on any quotation provided by us. If there is any discrepancy or error it will need to be highlighted as this point. If at any time you would like to discuss your drawing or query any information contained within it, please contact us via phone, email or live chat.

The manufacturing and finishes stages usually take around 6 weeks in total. This can go up and down depending on work schedules at the time of your order.

Approximately one week before delivery we will contact you to discuss a convenient delivery date and take the balance payment.

Your approval drawing will show you exactly how big your bespoke Lumen rooflights are, incuding the weights. Please ensure that you have adequate facilities on site to unload your delivery. Please tell us if there are any restrictions or difficulties that more hinder the delivery process. Most deliveries will be supplied by a national pallet network. Larger rooflights will not be able to utilise a tail lift so it might be necessary for you to have suitable equipment or manpower on site to unload. If you require specific delivery requirements or a dedicated vehicle, please talk to us.

Your bespoke Lumen rooflight will benefit from the same comprehensive guarantee as all our Lumen rooflights. Details for the guarantee and maintenance guidelines can be downloaded here

Information

Important

Please note that all of our blinds, flashing kits, electric actuators and bespoke rooflights are manufactured at the point of order and are deemed to be special (bespoke) items. Bespoke items are non-refundable so it is important that you choose the right products when you order. If you are unsure or have questions, please contact us via phone, email or live chat to ensure that the product you are buying is right.

In addition we take a 50% deposit on bespoke rooflight orders. Due to the work involved in producing these items, all deposits are non-refundable.

Please refer to our current terms & conditions for full details. By placing an order with us, it will be deemed that you accept our terms & conditions.

In addition is should also be noted that whilst we are able to offer bespoke rooflights to any RAL colour, the silicones, tapes and rubbers will always be black.

Please note that we are not able to accept returns of products that have been adapted or manufactured to customer requirements.

In addition, we cannot refund deposits for work already started nor can we issue refunds for delivery costs, fixed standard sizes, electric actuators and flashing kits.

We apply a 40% restocking charge to all stock items that are returned in the delivered condition and in the original packaging.

Our rooflights are available with a variety of electric actuator options. The actuators used are based on a number of factors including design and application. Not only do these drives provide the lift for the casement, they also provide the fixing (lock) when the casement is closed. The power of the locking is measured in Newton force (N). This can be converted approximately into kilograms and as an example, forcing open a drive with a 1000N force would be the same as lifting 100kgs (you would also need to factor in the casement weight).

The locking force of the drives we use is as follows:

KATO = 1700N

VCD = 2000N

KA34 = 1000N
KA54 = 1000N

KA66 (Twin Push) = 2000N

ZA85 (Pair) = 2200N

Unless otherwise requested by you, our delivery is to the site address only. Due to the sizes and weights of bespoke rooflights, the unloading and lifting process is the responsibility of the customer and the site team. The majority of bespoke designs cannot be unloaded by tail lift and it is therefore essential that you have the appropriate equipment and or people on site to unload.

You will be provided with an approval drawing showing the weights and dimensions of each rooflight on your order to allow you to organise the necessary equipment.

If you are unable to arrange your own offload, please talk to us and we can provide a quotation for additional equipment or manpower to assist on site.

Bespoke Rooflight Projects

Bespoke Lumen Planus Flat Skylight With Gas Struts

For this project our customer wanted a manually operated rooflight for a flat roof application. The casement can be used for ventilation on a daily basis with the brass winding mechanism but detached for access with the struts holding the casement open. The customer also chose a single glazing bar to enhance the conservation rooflight appearance. The rooflight is powder coated in RAL9005 with a coastal/marine coating and also has an American ash internal lining.

Bespoke Lumen Rooflight

Our client wanted to achieve a specific number of casements within the overall roof light dimension. Three casements were to remain fixed whilst the two opening casements needed to operate with an electric mechanism. Due to the slim width and the long length of each casement it was decided to use the KA54/250 stroke mechanism operated with a GVL8304 control panel.

Bespoke Skylight With Fixed And Opening

Our client wanted to achieve a specific number of casements within the overall roof light dimension. Three casements were to remain fixed whilst the two opening casements needed to operate with an electric mechanism. Due to the slim width and the long length of each casement it was decided to use the KA54/250 stroke mechanism operated with a GVL8304 control panel.

Fixed Bespke Lumen Rooflight With Adapted Oak Liner

Although fairly simple in appearance, this bespoke Lumen skylight was specifically produced to suit the roof application. The rooflight is non-opening and has a dummy sash to give the appearance of a casement. We extended the fitting bracket to allow the rooflight to remain flush with the tiles yet be deep enough to reach through the insulation down to the rafters. The internal liner was extended and produced in European oak to match the customers timber framed building. The glazing specification was 4mm toughened Pilkington Activ self-clean, 16mm argon gas cavity and 4mm toughened Pilkington Optitherm S1.

Large Bespoke Lumen Rooflight With Fixed Casement

This job involved two large rooflights which were used either side of the roof to allow light into a vaulted ceiling. To add the installation process each side was split into two parts which are then coupled together on site. The rooflights had an internal American ash lining with separate capping sections in American ash to finish off the internal appearance. The rooflights were powder coated in RAL9005 with a coastal/marine coating and the glazing specification was 6mm toughened Pilkington Activ self-clean, 20mm argon gas cavity and 6mm toughened Pilkington Optitherm S1.

Large Fixed Roof Light

This project involved manufacturing a fixed skylight to match our conservation rooflight design. Our fixed roof light design forms a dummy casement as part of the outer framework. This allows the rooflight to have the appearance of a casement whilst reducing the amount of metalwork and slightly increases the amount of glazing.

Lumen Bespoke Sky Light

This rooflight was part of a larger order for a residential project in Surrey. The client wished to replace a number of failing aluminium frames and had a series of large individual roof lights, some opening and some fixed. This particular skylight was located in a bedroom where the client wanted to maximise the glazing area and to provide ventilation at the push of a button, utilising the KA54/350 stroke mechanism. The design was to match our Lumen conservation range to ensure a low profile against the tiles.

Lumen Conservation Rooflight Smoke Vent For Pitch Roof

This rooflight was produced to help a customer that required a smoke vent whilst retaining a flush fitting appearance in a conservation area. To ensure the rooflight met the conservation criteria the customer chose our low profile design and two genuine glazing bars on the casement. The available height was restricted to 1000mm so the rooflight was produced in landscape format to ensure the vent was large enough. The casement is electrically operated using side mounted rack and pinion drives.

Lumen Fixed Shut Bespoke

These skylights were used on a barn conversion and the client wanted to introduce light through a series of slim fixed rooflights. The conservation design allows the roof light to remain flush with the roof line and remain unobtrusive to the original architecture. As with all Lumen rooflights, these incorporated Pilkington Activ self clean glass with an argon gas filled cavity and Pilkington Optitherm to increase the thermal performance.

Lumen Multi Casement Bespoke With Electric Actuator

With this bespoke rooflight, the customer had a particular multi casement appearance that he wanted to achieve. The casements are linked at 80mm apart to keep the framework to a minimum whilst maximising the Pilkington glass area. Each casement operates from its own cill mounted chain drive actuator. The rooflights were delivered to site as individual sections and linked with a capping piece during the installation. The rooflight is powder coated in RAL9005 with a coastal/marine coating and also has an American ash internal lining.

Rooflight Double Opening With Struts

Used on a residential property in South London these rooflights where supplied with opening casements, one of which was to be used for access. As such these were designed with gas struts on one side of each roof light. All of the opening casements are operated for daily use with our solid brass winding mechanisms.

Special Sized Skylight With electric Mechanism

These rooflights were supplied to a client in Scotland for a residential project. Due to the large size of each opening casement, the roof lights were fitted with KA54 electric actuators. As these were produced as bespoke items, we were able to fit special brackets to accommodate the actuator within the American oak frame of the rooflight.
