When considering their plans for a ground floor extension, which would almost double their living space, a significant focus would be on the external aesthetics of the build as this would not only be visible to them, but also the neighbouring properties.
One of their main challenges would be how to maximize the space and light entering their home. The brief was to transform the old dimly lit period property in to a new bright modern living space, while retaining its period charm.
The extension would house a modern new kitchen with quality appliances throughout. The Emery’s wanted to replicate the high quality products that they had specified internally with products of equal quality on the exterior.
After spending much time and effort researching the most suitable products to match their high specifications, they opted for two Lumen Heritage rooflights, to fit within the pitched roof, finished with beautiful natural slate.
Mr Emery said:
"We have been heavily involved in the build and have researched each part of it in meticulous detail to ensure that we were getting the very best materials to achieve the high quality finish we were striving for. Being one of Romsey’s original Victorian properties it was really important that we sourced rooflights that would be in keeping with not only our home, but the other similar style properties in the street. The Lumen Heritage was the perfect fit. Not only does it look the part, but the build quality is exceptional. You can really tell the difference between this rooflight and the others we considered. Our builders have also been extremely impressed with the rooflights and have commented on how much better they are than the plastic or aluminum alternatives which they are often required to install."
The additional footprint has succeeded in transforming the old Victorian period property into a modern and vibrant living space, which is now flooded with natural daylight, thanks in no small part to the rooflights. The Lumen Heritage rooflight is different from other modern-day rooflights and has been specially designed and crafted to ensure it remains unobtrusive and sympathetic to the external architecture of the building. This premium Conservation style rooflight boasts a slender steel external frame, and with its incredibly low profile, is ideal for installation in any project but especially period properties, listed buildings, barn conversions, or areas where flushing fitting glazing is required. The Lumen Heritage has been engineered to help eliminate condensation issues so often associated with steel framed products. Innovative new design features include twin timber linings, which are hand crafted from American Ash. It also features a single panel of high performing Pilkington Activ self clean glass, with a warm edge spacer.
Components and Craftsmanship
The combination of high quality components and quality craftsmanship provides the Lumen Heritage with industry-leading performance for a steel rooflight, with a U-value of just 1.6. This premium product is handmade in the UK to the highest standards, with each rooflight custom-made to fit the exact requirements and specifications of each individual customer. As with all Lumen products, the Heritage is available with a wide range of high quality British manufactured winders and accessories. Casements can be opening or fixed, have multiple or no glazing bars and as with their entire Lumen standard range, can be operated either with hand mechanisms or electrically.
Mr Emery continued:
"We have been so impressed, not only with the rooflight, but with the whole Lumen experience from start to finish. Their team has been a joy to work with and we are delighted with the finished product. It has made such a huge difference to our home."
